Google’s Logo is Bouncing Balls

Happened to be up late on Labor Day working on projects. Went to my beloved Google to look up some Magento question and WHAM bouncing balls over. Head over to Google.com or check out the screen shots below:

Google Logo Bouncing Balls

The balls as the page loads

Googles Logo Balls

The balls at rest - reading "Google"

Anyone know the purpose? Haven’t seen anyone mention why/what on Twitter. All in all pretty neat use of code. Maybe they are just showing off?

    LOLWUT? What’s going on?

  2. I dunno what gives either, because you can usually click on the logo, and get a website about whatever the current logo is referencing, honoring, etc. I will be interested in seeing what the answer is on this one too. As you move your mouse around…they “run” from it…it is cute for sure.

  3. Im not sure, ironically enough, i googled it, and this is the only thing that came up, someone else is wondering about it too

  4. I’ve been trying to find out (by googling, of course) for awhile myself. This is the only page I can find about it. Will be interesting to see what’s up.

  5. interesting for sure, started laughing, it is fun to play with. And this so far is the only explanation.

  6. NOBODY KNOWS BUT THE “MAN”…

Google Logo September 7 2010 – New Google Doodle HTML5 Balls – Google has a new doodle that was unveiled just moments ago. Thus far we have no idea what it is, but it is a great treat where you can spend hours chasing after colorful balls that regroup to write the word Google.

It might be a new game or it symbolizes some great event or could be a way to celebrate the anniversary of some neat invention. Or it could be a way for Google to celebrate their birthday – the company was founded on September 4, 1998.

Something to do with Wham-O’s Superball?

  8. I hate it. They have really gone off the deep end this time.

Anyone compare the look of the bouncing balls in IE8 versus Firefox 3.6.8? A subtle but noticeable difference. In Firefox, the balls appear to grow in size as they bounce toward you — just like in real life. But in IE8, the balls remain static in size. Interesting . . .

  10. For a funny view, highlight the page THEN go after the balls.
